Vic Lucas: Afro-Gospel’s Global Storyteller on the Rise

Vic Lucas: Afro-Gospel’s Global Storyteller on the Rise

Vic Lucas has reached #1 on the NGMCharts Afro-Gospel chart with “Yeshua!,” climbing from #2 to the top spot in the week of June 12, 2026. It is his first #1 on the genre chart and marks a major milestone for an artist whose story stretches across three continents.

Born in Nigeria, raised in South Africa, and later relocated to the United States on a soccer scholarship, Vic Lucas (Oluwatoba Victor Famodimu) took an unconventional route to gospel music. A career-ending injury ended his athletic dreams and sent him searching for a new outlet. He wrote his first song, “On My Knees,” uploaded it to YouTube, and watched a major blog pick it up. That affirmation set him on a new path.

Living alone in Mississippi, he poured his doubts and faith into his first official single, “Enough.” With no label, no budget, and no promotion, the track landed on the Billboard Christian AC charts. From there, he relocated to Nashville and found himself in rooms with music executives, though inner doubts eventually led him to step away from the industry for a season.

It was heartbreak that brought him back to God and back to music. Leaning into his African roots, Vic found Afrobeat to be the perfect vehicle for his voice, a sound that fuses Afrobeat rhythm, gospel soul, and R&B storytelling. His catalog now includes “Holy Ghost,” “Call on Me,” and “I Need You,” with millions of streams across platforms.

“Yeshua!” Reaches the Summit

“Yeshua!” was released on April 1, 2026, and debuted on the NGMCharts Afro-Gospel chart at #4. It climbed to #2 in its second week and has now reached #1 in its fourth week on the chart, moving up from #2 with strong momentum. The song has spent one week at #1 so far.

The song is built around a simple, reverent declaration of the name of Jesus. Its instrumentation is intentional and unhurried, allowing every line to land with weight. Vic delivers with calm conviction, drawing listeners into a space of reflection that feels more like prayer than performance. It is a sound that has connected deeply with Afro-Gospel audiences looking for worship that is both culturally rooted and globally aware.

Vic Lucas also holds the #4 spot on the same Afro-Gospel chart with “Thank You, God.” and debuts at #18 this week with “I Need You (feat. IsaiahLaRoi),” giving him three charting songs on the genre chart. On the main NGMCharts Top 50, “Yeshua!” sits at #4.

What Sets Him Apart

Vic Lucas occupies a rare space in Afro-Gospel. His sound draws from Afrobeat, R&B, and contemporary worship, making him accessible to both gospel audiences and mainstream Afrobeat listeners. His background across Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States gives his music a global texture that few artists in the genre can match. He is preparing to release his debut album, “The Journey,” which promises to pull together the threads of his story into a full body of work.

Beyond music, Vic is building a broader vision that includes faith-rooted merchandise and children’s books under his “Bible Baybee” brand. His goal is not just to make music but to create a platform that uplifts spiritual Afrobeat voices worldwide.
